Joel Burke

They are many versatile and talented techies in the creative world, but none quite like Joel Burke. Son and apprentice to Ronnie Burke, one of the founders and producers of the international music festival Reggae Sunsplash, Joel was exposed to some of the world’s top music acts and talents from a young age. Having been so immersed in video and live production growing up, he quickly found his calling as a filmmaker. He has edited many of Jamaica’s top music videos, for popular directors such as Ras Kassa and Jay Will. He made his directorial debut with music videos for Reggae/Dancehall artistes Jovi Rockell and Bounty Killer. He revealed himself as a force to be reckoned with, after having written and directed the critically acclaimed short film “Bad Lucky,” a comedy about young love and misfortune. Joel is now in post-production of his first feature length movie, titled “The Candy Shop.” A coming of age story of three uptown Jamaican teenagers exploring the strip club scene of Kingston and finding themselves a little romance, and whole lot of trouble.
