World Cinema Wednesday

There’ve been so many Nazi-era films made over the years, I’m starting to feel like based on the rate alone, were bound to get some weak ones amongst the lot of these really powerful films about one of the most serious subjects of all time. The Counterfeiters takes a great approach to the story, focusing on a little known but hugely important subplot that helped fund the Nazi war machine. A great watch which follows a very relatable protagonist. Excellent stuff.

The true story of Salomon Sorowitsch, counterfeiter extraordinaire and bohemian. After getting arrested in a German concentration camp in 1944, he agrees to help the Nazis in an organized counterfeit operation set up to help finance the war effort.

Starring: Karl Markovics August Diehl Devid Striesow
